NYSC camp in Plateau State relocated

NYSC camp in Mangu LGA, Plateau.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has temporarily relocated its Orientation camp in Mangu Local Government Area to Jos South LGA.

NYSC spokesperson, Eddy Megwa, disclosed the relocation to the state capital in a statement.

“This is to inform members of the public, especially our esteemed prospective corps members, that the venue of the 2023 Batch ‘B’ Stream One Orientation Camp for Plateau State has been changed from the Permanent Orientation Camp in Mangu to Waye Foundation by Buken Academy, Doi-Du (Temporary NYSC Orientation Camp) in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State,” Megwa said.

He further added that all prospective corps members are required to report to the new location on the dates specified on their call up letters.

The sudden development is due to the worsening security situation in the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State. There has been incessant attacks and conflict between farming communities resulting in the loss of lives and properties.

Before this unprovoked attacks, several communities in Riyom, Barkin Ladi, Jos South and Mangu Local Government witnessed deliberate destruction of farmlands and provocative grazing of over 300 hectares of land.

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Plateau State has denied any involvement in the ongoing attacks in the state. They stressed that they were not aware of any attack as those are misleading accusations on them to paint the Fulani community black.

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Muftwang, has placed a 24 hour curfew in Mangu.

He had this to say on the cause of the brewing attacks, “It is a problem that has built up over the years. The most important thing is that there is a breakdown of trust at both intra-community and inter community levels. Eventually non-state actors who have the weapon of violence came into the situation and further escalated the situation.

“A lot of people who have not been fully identified are coming into the frame. So there are a lot of attacks and counter attacks. But by and large in Plateau State I can tell you that 80 per cent of the situation is pure genocide against the people of Plateau.”
