In the opening 32 game of the 1992/93 season, United traveled to Palace – formerly managed by Steve Coppel – knowing that victory would bring us one step closer to winning their first Premier League title. The Reds had to work hard to win, as the hosts held us for just over an hour before Mark Hughes opened the scoring with an unstoppable shot at the back post. In the closing stages, Paul Ince added a second to take the win for Sir Alex Ferguson’s team. This victory and defeat of title rivals Aston Villa at Oldham Athletic confirmed United’s victory in the Premier League; ending our 26-year wait for the top-flight title.

United 5 Palace 2 (2004/05)

When United hosted Palace in December of the 2004/05 season, Paul Scholes stole the headlines with a superb double in our emphatic 5-2 victory. The Reds took the lead twice, and the Eagles fought twice, as Scholes’ opening goal and Alan Smith’s header in the 35th minute were canceled by Danny Granville and Jonas Kolka in quick succession. However, after the end of the first half, the Reds outperformed Palace, with an own goal by Emerson Boyce, and the second for Scholes gave Sir Alex Ferguson’s team the lead of the two goals. John O’Shea added the fifth goal in overtime, receiving a cross-end from Ryan Giggs, who was playing his 600th game for United, to score a high-goal win.

Palace 1 United 2 (2016/17)

Another December game featured in our selection, as that narrow 2-1 win at Selhurst Park was secured with a late shot from Zlatan Ibrahimovic. In a match that contained controversy, with shouts of handball and controversial offside calls, Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba distinguished themselves for the Reds. The Swede sent in a cross for the Frenchman, who gave United a deserved lead in the first half. But after the break, the Eagles returned, and James MacArthur equalized the scoring after the hour, to form a tense final. Just when the match looked like it turned away from the Reds, Ibrahimovic fired in Pogba’s crucial pass to score an important away win.

Palace 2 United 3 (2017/18)

United made a stunning comeback from two goals down to tide Palace by three in March 2018. Just two points ahead of second-placed Liverpool in the Premier League, the Reds entered this game knowing the win was pivotal. At the end of the first half, the Reds, playing with an alternate gray bar, were two goals behind thanks to goals from Andros Townsend and Patrick van Anholt. Defeat seemed likely. But by the 76th minute, the Reds leveled again, with Chris Smalling’s header and Romelu Lukaku’s shot eliminating the Eagles’ advantage. Then, in injury time, Nemanja Matic produced a stunning aerial shot from outside the penalty area, and his first goal was in a united shirt. The goal sent our fans into a rave and completed the Reds’ stunning comeback at Selhurst Park.
